Dartford Crossing Cost

The Dart Charge app

Two taps to pay a crossing. Push notifications if you forget. Free, official, and the simplest fix for anyone who keeps missing the deadline.

Official

Dart Charge (official app)

Built by the Dart Charge team. Linked to the same backend as gov.uk, so you can pay one-off crossings or manage a pre-pay account from a phone.

What it does

  • Pay any crossing in two taps
  • Reminder if you cross without paying
  • Open and manage a pre-pay account
  • View crossing history per vehicle
  • Add multiple vehicles by registration

Where to get it

Search "Dart Charge" on the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). The publisher is National Highways. Avoid clones with similar names.

Third-party

Caura (third-party)

A private app that handles the Dart Charge alongside other UK motoring tasks (parking, ULEZ, congestion charge). Useful if you cross multiple tolled zones in London.

What it does

  • Pay Dart Charge crossings
  • Pay ULEZ, congestion charge and Silvertown/Blackwall
  • Tax, MOT and insurance reminders
  • Ongoing parking session bookings

Things to know

  • Caura is a commercial company, not a government service. They make money via parking fees and partnerships.
  • The Dart Charge payment itself is the same as gov.uk: no extra fee.
  • Useful as a single dashboard for London driving costs.

Which one should you use?

  • Just the Dartford Crossing: use the official Dart Charge app.
  • London drivers using ULEZ, congestion charge, parking too: Caura is the better one-stop dashboard.
  • Fleet managers: the official app handles up to 20 vehicles per pre-pay account, which is usually enough.
  • No phone or want to keep things separate: pay at gov.uk in a browser. Same outcome, no install.
