Dartford Crossing Cost

Dart Charge fleet account

One account, one Direct Debit, up to 20 vehicles. The discounted rate applies to every crossing, every vehicle, and you get downloadable transaction reports for end-of-year admin.

Up to 20 vehicles

Add cars, vans and HGVs to a single account by number plate. Mix-and-match classes, all charged at the discounted rate.

Single Direct Debit

One bill across the fleet. Auto top-up keeps the balance topped up, so a quiet pay run never causes a missed crossing.

Discounted on every class

Cars and Class B vans £2.80. Class C £3.60. Class D £7.20. The same 14-20% saving applies on every crossing.

Transaction reports

Download a CSV of crossings by date, vehicle and amount. Useful for VAT returns, allocation to client jobs and end-of-year reconciliation.

Add and remove vehicles online

Sell a van? Buy a new one? Swap them on the account before the next crossing so the discounted rate applies.

No fee to open

A £15 deposit gets you started. The deposit covers crossings, it isn't a service fee.

Setting up a fleet account

  1. 1

    Go to gov.uk/dart-charge

Open the official Dart Charge portal. Choose 'Open a pre-pay account'. The same product handles both personal and business use.

  2. 2

    Select 'business' during sign-up

Use a company email address and trading name. You can register up to 20 vehicles per account.

  3. 3

    Add each vehicle by registration

Plate, vehicle type and a label (driver name, depot, route). Labels appear in the transaction reports later.

  4. 4

Set up Direct Debit auto top-up

Pick a top-up trigger and amount. For active fleets, set it to top up when the balance drops below a week's worth of crossings.

  5. 5

    Confirm the discount applies

The first crossing after activation should bill at the discounted rate. Check the transaction history to confirm before assuming all is well.

What a fleet account saves

Annual savings versus PAYG, assuming 3 crossings/week (one each way for 1.5 working days). Mixed-class fleet for realism.

Fleet sizePAYG annualPre-pay annualSaving
3 Class C vans£1966£1685£281/yr
5 Class C vans£3276£2808£468/yr
10 Class C vans£6552£5616£936/yr
20 Class C vans£13104£11232£1872/yr

Working: 3 crossings/week × 52 weeks = 156 crossings/year per vehicle. Class C rates: £4.20 PAYG vs £3.60 pre-pay.

More than 20 vehicles?

The standard pre-pay account caps at 20 vehicles. Larger fleets and commercial operators should contact National Highways commercial enquiries to discuss bespoke account arrangements and consolidated billing.
