How to Open a Pre-Pay Account

Go to dartford-crossing-charge.service.gov.uk

Click 'Sign in or create an account'

Register with your email address and create a password

Add your vehicle(s) by registration number

Deposit minimum £15 to activate your account

Set up auto top-up via Direct Debit (recommended — prevents account running empty)

Important: Account Gotchas
Empty account = standard rate
If your account balance runs out, you'll be charged the full standard rate (£3.50) for that crossing. Set up auto top-up to avoid this.
Top-up takes up to 2 working days
If you add credit by card (not Direct Debit), allow up to 2 working days for it to appear. Don't top up the night before expecting it to be ready.
Up to 20 vehicles
You can add up to 20 vehicles — ideal for small families or small fleet operators. For larger fleets, contact National Highways directly.
Account must be registered before crossing
The pre-pay discount only applies if your vehicle is already registered in your account when you cross. You can't backdate the discount.
